A couple of years ago, a Twitch user started a social experience called "Twitch Plays Pokemon". Basically, "Twitch Plays Pokemon" was a playthrough of Pokemon original game, with directions and instructions from the crowdsourcing cat chain room. Twitch Plays Pokemon became Internet phenonomenon, leading to chain playing through all Pokemon games repeatedly.
Now Twitch began a "Twitch Plays Pokemon Go" channel, which allows the Twitch community play the hot new mobile application using the same methods as Twitch Plays Pokemon. Players enter commands like "spin", "scroll" or "move" to control the player, with GPS coordinates spoofed designed to "trick" the game thinking that the player is actually walking around the real world.
The project was launched by members of HackNY group, which stalled a jailbroken iPhone to simulate walking in the real world. The player "Twitch Plays Pokemon Go" started in Central Park in New York seems to be wandering the area again. Theoretically, Twitch could send the player everywhere, even in the middle of the ocean.
More than 80,000 people watched Twitch Plays Pokemon Go, with many more expected to come. It is possible Niantic Labs and Nintendo could ban the account "Twitch Plays Pokemon Go" as it is technically rigged the system, but the creators of the platform hoping the game developers realize that it's all in good fun.
