Pokemon GO uses real places of interest world locations for PokeStops and Pokemon Gym. And what is more interesting than a cemetery? Dozens of players report that the cemeteries, especially those located in large cities, are hotbeds for PokeStops and Pokemon gyms.
Although we associate the cemeteries with grief, they were once considered social spots in the early 19th century. Until the city parks have become commonplace, urban cemeteries were considered primary cities and green spaces were popular places for recreation. Recently, some cemeteries have reopened, allowing the public to use their spaces for reasons outside to bury the dead.
In addition to the cemeteries, memorials and public buildings are also generally PokeStops or Pokemon gyms. Pokemon Go also includes a brief history of memory or description, so players can learn about local history while catching Pokemon.
Niantic Labs used crowdsourcing their first match Ingress to determine locations for their PokeStops and Pokemon gyms, so that all the cemetery used to Pokemon GO is probably open to the public. However, it is a good idea to check before you explore your local cemetery and be sure to comply with mourners and give them space and privacy. In addition, there are no reports that visiting a cemetery increases the chance of meeting a ghost-type Pokemon, unless you visit at night, of course.
